Colorado auto registrations dip in February as electric vehicle sales surge
Electric Tesla Model 3 bucking the trend
Car and light truck registrations in Colorado, both new and used, dipped in February, according to a monthly update from the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association. But electric vehicle sales are surging because of the popularity of the Tesla Model 3.
But there has been a big jump in the registrations of electric sedans because of the popularity of three Teslas models and the Nissan Leaf. Electric vehicle registrations surpassed hybrid and plug-in hybrid combined by a wide margin.
Tesla registrations year-to-date are running at nearly triple the levels of last year and the manufacturers share has gone from 0.6 percent of registrations last year to 2.2 percent.
